New Restaurants Add Dining Options Near the Woodlands Pavilion

Walk the half mile between 24 Waterway Avenue and the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on a Thursday night this October and you will pass three restaurants that did not exist eighteen months ago. For years, the honest answer to "where should we go first" was a shrug and a drive to Market Street; now, the Waterway has somewhere to eat before a show.

The corridor used to run out of options after 8:30. Now it runs on a schedule that lines up, almost too neatly, with what is playing a few blocks away.

The Address That Used to Close Early

Lankford's opened its third location at 24 Waterway Avenue on January 31, 2026, in a space that had sat as Baja Cantina. The chain is not new money chasing a trend. It was founded in 1937, and the family that runs it today includes third-generation owners Jessica and Paul Prior and fourth-generation family member Nicolas van der Does. Lankford's third location is in The Woodlands, after Midtown and Bellaire, and its Rescue Menu for dogs routes a portion of proceeds to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter.

One door down, at 25 Waterway, sits the more telling story.

Bar Bludorn's Larger Woodlands Location

Bar Bludorn is Aaron Bludorn's first restaurant outside central Houston, and it is taking over the former Baker St. Pub & Grill space. It was slated for the third quarter of 2026, which closed out this week. What makes the choice worth paying attention to is what Bludorn told CultureMap about picking the spot: proximity to the Pavilion and to the area's two largest hotels ranked among his reasons, alongside the idea that the room could double as an office happy hour spot and a pre-show dinner stop for people staying at either hotel.

The Woodlands location is also being built larger than the Memorial flagship, with a private dining room the original does not have.

The Special-Occasion Half Mile Up the Road

Five minutes up Lake Woodlands Drive, Hughes Landing is filling a different role. Chef Austin Simmons, who ran the kitchen at Tris until it closed in January 2025, is returning with Charolais, a pasture-to-plate steakhouse built around a genetics-driven cattle program he developed with Texas rancher Larry Ludeke. It is taking the former Local Pour space at Restaurant Row, and it is not trying to be a tavern. If the Waterway strip is where you grab dinner before walking to a show, Charolais is where you go when the occasion itself is the point.

That split matters for anyone deciding where to make a reservation on a given Friday. The Waterway is now the casual, walkable register. Hughes Landing is the dress-code register. Eighteen months ago there was really only one register, and it closed early.

What This Solves If You Live West of I-45 or Near Research Forest

Not every relevant change sits on the Waterway itself. Schilleci's New Orleans Kitchen spent roughly fifteen years at Market Street before relocating to 2501 Research Forest Drive, Suite B, across from Snooze. Construction started in November 2025 with a reopening targeted around January 2026, and the Cajun and Creole menu, gumbo and étouffée included, made the move intact. For anyone living closer to Alden Bridge, Sterling Ridge, or Grogan's Mill than to Town Center, that relocation puts a familiar anchor within a five-minute drive without the Market Street parking routine.

On the west side of the community, On The Kirb opened its fifth and largest location at 6777 Woodlands Parkway in Indian Springs on November 15, 2025, blending an organic-eatery format with a sports bar setup. If the drive to Town Center for a game-day table has been the annoying part of the fall, that trip is now optional.

This Fall's Calendar Finally Matches the Restaurants
